Shed members have been busy recently constructing an outdoor display box. The box was constructed for a local home-owner who will use it to display artworks in her front yard. The box will include lighting to highlight the artworks at night.
Central Coast Council recently held the Toukley town-centre celebration “A Taste of Toukley”. The event was described by Shari from the Council:
“Taste of Toukley is an activation designed to celebrate the best of Toukley by showcasing the diversity of cuisine and business offerings available in Toukley. Five local restaurants will be providing a limited number of FREE takeaway tasting boxes showcasing their menus to the community. The free tasting boxes will be available on Saturday 4 June from 12noon to 8pm (while stocks last) and to order the tasting boxes community members must use the code-words ‘I love Toukley’… From 11am to 2pm on Saturday 4 June the Village Green will host a range of activities designed to encourage the community to attend and enjoy takeaway or dine in options from local eateries.“
The tables and benches used during the event were designed and constructed by The Entrance Men’s Shed and they were enjoyed by patrons at the event.
Shed members have been busy all year, planning, designing, constructing and installing new gates for The Shed.
The old metal gates had served us well but were showing their age, with rust becoming an issue. The new gates (single and double) are Shed-built merbau timber frames with locally fabricated metal insets.
The new gates look stylish and should serve us well for years to come.
Shed member Bruce has recently completed this model of The Titanic. Great attention to detail Bruce, well done.
In 2020 The Entrance Men’s Shed built a collection of “big” chairs for Central Coast Council: https://theentrancemensshed.com.au/2020/12/15/large-chairs-for-central-coast-council/. These chairs were painted by local artists and installed at local beaches and foreshores.
The Woy Woy chair has recently been in for repairs and shed member Bob took the opportunity to visit the other chair sites to perform any repairs and preventative maintenance needed.

On the 20th of December members of The Entrance Men’s Shed enjoyed a buffet lunch to round out the 2021 calendar year.
Shed members enjoyed food and drinks from The Kettle Black Cafe, located in the grounds of The Entrance Community Centre. The recent prolonged wet weather cleared up on cue letting everyone enjoy the sunshine and good company.
The Entrance Men’s Shed is closed from the 22nd of December until reopening on the 5th of January 2022.
Members of The Entrance Men’s Shed have been busy over the last few weeks , building portable outdoor dining tables (12) and seating benches (26) for Central Coast Council.
Council is planning to use the tables and benches in outdoor community dining settings around the Central Coast. For this use it was important that both tables and benches were designed to fold flat for storage and transport, and be easily secured together.
This has a been a big job with many Shed members pitching in to help at various times, and every spare bench and flat surface pressed into service for building the sub-assemblies. In the images below the table and bench parts and sub-assemblies are being built and prepared for finishing.
In these images below the tables and benches are being given a color finish or a clear outdoor spray coating.
Finally, the finished tables and benches are carefully arranged, stacked and prepared for transport by Council. Thanks to all Shed members for their contributions to this big but fascinating and worthwhile project!
Shed member Keith has been busy working on a timber and brass-inlay jewellery box.
He’s recently finished the project and the end result is a very stylish storage space for jewellery.
The Entrance Men’s Shed held its 2021 Annual General Meeting on the 29th of October 2021. All financial members were invited to attend, and a sausage sizzle was held afterwards to celebrate the new committee members.
The new shed Committee officeholders are: President – Bob Ihlein, Vice President – Ken Yeatman, Secretary – Richard Threlfo, Treasurer – Darrol Harmer, Assistant Treasurer – Bruce Dexter. Other committee members are Rob Eschbank, Stuart Hungerford (webmaster) and Terry Anderson.
After the AGM shed members came together for these photos. Shed members are sporting new caps from Caterpillar Inc in the US, after receiving shed member Keith’s model of a Caterpillar dump truck.
During the recent COVID lockdown shed member Ken constructed this beautiful and intricate wooden and brass kaleidoscope.
Ken created the whole thing in his garage workshop and reports it took a steady hand to cut the matching wooden detail work.
Following the lifting of COVID restrictions by the NSW Government, The Entrance Men’s Shed will re-open on the 11th of October 2021.
For the first few weeks after re-opening the shed will need to manage numbers through an attendance roster. Please contact the shed committee to add your name to the roster.
Shed member Richard has been busy during lockdown making a range of high-quality woodworking projects, including gifts for friends and family. The captions below describe these projects in more detail.
During lockdown shed member Bob has enjoyed walking for exercise and encourages all of us who can to do the same.
On a recent walk he went past the site of a shed project from 2012, “Tubby’s Cubby” installed on the grounds of a nursing home at Killarney Vale. Bob is pleased to report the structure is still going strong.
Shed member Geoff has been busy constructing a beautiful wooden urn. It contains almost 600 (!) pieces of timber. Great work Geoff!
Shed member Rem has been busy during lockdown stripping back to the original finish on a timber dining table on his deck and re-coating it with a more durable marine grade satin varnish. Rem reports success using an Aldi spray gun which works surprisingly well. As with any painting project the longest part was the preparation!
As we can see below Rem also fitted an oil catch-can on an Abarth 124 Spider to stop oil getting into the air filter and ultimately the turbo intake.
During what feels like a very long COVID lockdown, shed members have been busy working on projects around their homes. Here’s the first of these: a bench restoration project from shed member Bob.
Bob notes that he has had the bench for 20 years, but this is its best restoration. Before lockdown shed member Rob sandblasted the bench and undercoated the metal parts. Bob has since sanded the wooden slats, painted them and sprayed the metal parts.
The NSW Government has directed that non-essential organisations must observe a COVID-19 shutdown. The affected area includes the Central Coast and as a result the shed will close until further notice.
The shed committee will issue further updates closer to any planned reopening date.
The Entrance Men’s Shed will be holding its Annual General Meeting on the 29th of October 2021 at 10:45am. The AGM will be held at The Entrance Men’s Shed, in the grounds of the Entrance Community Centre, 15 Battley Ave, The Entrance.
